BYDS initiates arts and cultural programs to create strong and sustainable communities in the Bankstown area. Since 1991 BYDS has instigated and run over a hundred distinct projects that have brought together thousands of people at screenings, launches, events and performances covering every kind of art and cultural pursuit. We are located at 6-8 Bankstown City Plaza, in Hackett House.

The Aboriginal Cultural Excursion to Flinders Slopes on November 25 2009 was a fantastic day with lots of great activities and workshops for students and elders of Bankstown who attended. BYDS Koori Radio Holiday Training Project

Six local Indigenous students from years 9-10 participated in BYDS Koori Radio Holiday training program from Monday 12th - Friday 16th October 2009. Throughout the week the students learned how to operate a portable recorder and a studio panel, present information on air, and developed interviewing and digital editing skills. Shock to the System

Throughout September the Think+DO Tank, supported by BYDS and Bankstown City Council will conduct a series of in-school consultations with a project called Shock to the System. These workshops are designed to educate young people about how local political decisions are made and ensure their views are directly informing these decisions. Click HERE for more.

Indigenous Youth

 

BYDS Indigenous Youth Officer, Neil Trindall spoke at an Australian Institute of Criminology conference focused on Indigenous young people, crime and justice on Monday 31st August. Neil presented a general overview of the work that BYDS does, the specific Indigenous projects he has been working on, and the importance of engaging Indigenous youth in arts and cultural programs.
