Joanna WinchesterJoanna is a PhD candidate at the Centre for Cultural Research, University of Western Sydney, and a Drama Education Lecturer at Australian Catholic University. Jo has been working and researching in the field of community based arts for the last eight years, and is interested in developing a conceptual frame for community-based arts which would lead to a more critical understanding of the benefits of this arts practice. BYDS is a case study in Joanna's thesis, and she is keen to continue to explore the multi-faceted outcomes of their arts practice.
Jill HicksonJill joined BYDS’ management committee in 2007. Jill is an accomplished video maker in her own right and has made literally hundreds of community based videos with Art Resistance.
Stuart SloughStuart has been working in the field of art and culture for over a decade, working in Wollongong as well as at the community based art centre Garage Graphix in Blacktown. Stuart, in partnership with artist Graham Chalcroft, established and ran the public art and design business Placebo Cultures between 1998 and 2004. Stuart worked in Tim Carroll’s position as Arts Officer when Tim was overseas in the second half of 2004. Stuart is now the Cultural Planner at Wyong Shire Council.
Lily ShearerLily is a Muruwaroi woman born in Brewarrina and has been a custodian of Darug lands since 1988. Lily trained with the Aboriginal and Islander Dance Theatre in Glebe, and the University of Western Sydney, where she gained a Bachelor of Arts, in Theatre Theory and Practice. Lily is an experienced choreographer, director and stage manager. She has worked on projects such as Dreaming (1996) with Shopfront Theatre for Young People and Gandangara Local Aboriginal Land Council, Against the Grain (2000) with Shopfront, Living Floor (1997 & 1998) for Casula Powerhouse and a host of other productions and projects. Lily is currently employed as the Indigenous Performance Broker at the Performance Space.
