What does BYDS do?

BYDS runs arts and cultural projects and activities for the communities of the Bankstown area. Most of these projects are instigated by the community, with the assistance of BYDS. Most projects that BYDS run are funded through variety of government schemes.

 

Where does BYDS get its money?

BYDS core funding comes from the NSW state government through Arts NSW. This department has been funding the Arts position at BYDS since 1994. Prior to this the position was funded through the Western Sydney Area Assistance Scheme (WSAAS).

 

How can I get involved in some of the projects that BYDS does?

The majority of the projects that BYDS run are for local residents – mainly for young people (16-24) The only criteria that applies to our projects is that you are interested in learning a skill and can attend workshops and be involved in a ‘public outcome’ – this might take the form of: producing an artwork for an exhibition, developing a scene for a theatre piece, creating a piece of writing or an illustration for a publication.
