Indigenous Oral History Project
Jaleesa Donovan, BYD's youngest staff member has begun working on the Indigenous Oral History Project. Jaleesa will be recording stories and life histories from the many indigenous Elders from the Bankstown area. These interviews will be recorded on video and a series of high quality photographs will also be taken - BYDS is looking at producing a DVD and publication by mid 2010.
This intergenerational project will create an important resource for the local community and add to BYDS' long history of Oral History based work.
Bankstown NAIDOC 2010

Jaleesa's progress for the Indigenous Oral History Project has been showcased at Bankstown Library for Bankstown NAIDOC 2010 celebrations in July. Patrons can view posters compiled by Jaleesa of interview material, photos, and artworks from the Bankstown Elders. See below to view a seletion of these posters.
On Saturday 20th of February 2010 Jaleesa completed a Master Class in interviewing techniques at the State Library of NSW. This was run through the Oral History Association of Australia (OHAA) and the skills developed in this class have given Jaleesa greater confidence in recording the stories of our local Elders..

Morning Tea
On Tuesday August 10 2009 Jaleesa held a morning tea for the Indigenous elders in Bankstown, presenting to the group her ideas and current research for the Indigenous Oral History Project. She received great feedback from all who attended and will now start her interviews to record the many important stories of elders in Bankstown.
