RAS Workshops

Throughout November 2009 BYDS facilitated Forum Theatre and Writing Workshops in seven schools throughout Western Sydney for the RAS (Refugee Action Support) Project funded by The Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation. RAS facilitators were a collective of BYDS' talented, young writers and performers including; Mohammad Ahmed, Brodie Wilson, Bill Reda, Aisyiyah Prahastono, Neil Trindall, Fiona Wright, Rebecca Landon, Luke Carman, Lachlan Brown, Aimee Falzon and Arda Barut. The seven schools visited were; Lurnea, Northmead, Parramatta, Doonside, Merrylands, Fairvale and Blacktown Girls High Schools. Feedback from facilitators and teachers involved highlights that students were fantastic to work with and produced some great writing and responses to the workshops. Student feedback was also positive:

"we learnt new skills about writing, expressing ourselves and solving problems in life...". - Student of Parramatta High School.

"...we got to learn in different ways and gain confidence with our writing..." - Student of Doonside High School.
