The Australian Voice On January 4 BYDS began 2010 with a 45 minute lecture at Coogee Crown Plaza about the contemporary Western Sydney voice. The lecture was part of a short, three week program devoted to Australian contemporary culture with this particular seminar presented by Annette Tesiora on the Australian voice. The audience were lecturers and students from the University of Maryland, College Park USA.
As part of the talk, Mohammed Ahmad explored the history of Bankstown, shared clips from Alleway Honour and gave an in-depth analysis of what it means to create a culture for Western Sydney Literature.
As part of the lecture, students also had the pleasure of listening to Westside writer, Arda Barut share his English and Turkish poetry, as published in Westside Fill Your Bucket.
