Art Cars

Art Cars was an idea that former project worker Peter Polites and (former) Bankstown Council Cultural Development Officer Chris Hudson developed over a number of years after marveling at the magnificent and artfully airbrushed cars that they saw being driven in the area. The obvious love and commitment that the owners had for their vehicles and the way that the cars expressed something about the owners prompted Peter and Chris to apply for funds to Arts NSW to organise an exhibition of these vehicles in the Bankstown City Plaza (Old Town Plaza).

Lina Kastoumis worked from early August 2006 on all aspects of the project. On October 28th 2006 the Plaza saw a fantastic display of magnificently sprayed 'Art Cars'

There was demonstrations of spray art brushing from Airbrush Venturi, a “Fully sik My Ride’ demo with Bankstown Mayor's vehicle by Hala and Zayaan and industry stalls by Arts and Soul (thanks John Nicholas!), House of Kolor, Queen Street Smash and lots of hip Hop based entertainment and more.

In 2007, Aline Mansour picked up where Lina left off and Art Cars 2007 continued the tradition of fully sik cars in the plaza.
