Community Television and Multimedia Projects
BYDS has been working actively in many areas with media since 1992 when, with Art Resistance, BYDS produced a video showcasing the artistic achievements of some of the young people from the local area.
Since that time, BYDS has produced literally scores of high quality videos and DVDs documenting projects or stand alone video projects.
Many of these have been featured at Western Sydney festivals.
Through Actively Radical’s Sunday night programs on channel 31 and more recently ‘Community Focus’ many of BYDS’ projects have been highlighted through interviews with participants and coordinators. These have included videos made by local Aboriginal people, heritage videos, Hip Hop projects and large theatre based projects such as ‘Risk it for da Biskit’.
In 2005, Arts NSW granted monies to BYDS for the purposes of running a TV presenters project. Through this we taught young, local people skills associated with TV presentation. We also utilised the many skills of local film maker Johnny Tran. With Rebecca Semaan and Jill Hickson from Art Resistance, local young people were trained up in how to deliver a ‘classy’ presentation to a TV audience. These young people produced five half hour shows in all, highlighting a variety of Bankstown based arts and cultural projects.
These shows will be broadcast on Channel 31 in the second half of 2006.
Animation and Multimedia...Hybrid Graf
Through funds donated by Bankstown Sports Club, BYDS produced an animation which combined the work of aerosol artists and more traditional oil painters from Bankstown Art Society.
This animation, by award winning animator Mary Benn, was launched at BYDS in May 2006.
Local artist Tin Pham produced a character for the animation, Sky who linked the various scenarios and images that constituted the animation.
