BYDS Koori Radio Holiday Training Project

Six local Indigenous students from years 9-10 participated in BYDS Koori Radio Holiday training program from Monday 12th - Friday 16th October 2009. Throughout the week the students learnt how to operate a portable recorder and studio panel, present information on air, and developed interviewing and digital editing skills.

During the week the students interviewed one of the Local Elders to practice some of these techniques. They were also taken to Luna Park as a break from training and a chance to get to know each other better. At the end of the week the students were also fortunate enough to visit Koori Radio and gain first hand experience at a radio station. They were given a tour of Koori Radio and were introduced to other radio presenters and workers, before getting a chance to have some training on the the equipment in the studio.

On completion the students were offered "Air Time" at Koori Radio 93.7FM on Wednesdays from 4-6pm for the Young, Black & Deadly Program.

At the end of the program the six students receive a Certificate 11 in Broadcasting.
